What happens to the high-voltage battery

The battery pack is isolated and removed at our ATF by a qualified high-voltage technician. Depending on state-of-health, it takes one of three routes:

• Direct re-use — packs above 80% state-of-health can be resold for solar storage or forklift applications
• Cell harvesting — packs between 60–80% are broken down and the good cells are re-cased into home energy-storage units
• Recycling — packs below 60% or with damaged cells go to a licensed battery recycler for lithium, cobalt and nickel recovery

How EV scrap prices compare

A healthy high-voltage battery can add £500–£4,000 to the scrap value depending on chemistry and capacity. A damaged or dead battery adds nothing — and in some cases the recycling cost brings the payout below a comparable petrol car. That's why EV quotes always need the reg plus battery state-of-health if you know it.
